Integration is often talked about but not often understood in terms of the Change Management skills it requires. Our experience and the evidence on which we base our practice suggests that it is not the ‘moving toward something new’ that people find really difficult, but ‘moving away from something that is old and familiar’ that can be self – defeating. We are aware that whatever the sector, 75% of change initiatives fail in their first year largely as a result of this phenomenon.
We start with the end in mind and focus on ‘what good looks like in the new model’. We compare this to the current structures and processes and describe the key changes that need to take place and their enablers. We engage the teams working in the current system who are the only one’s who can make the change happen and ‘stick’, to identify what they need to keep; what they need to start doing differently and importantly, what they need to leave behind. We facilitate them to create the new Story for the future in a way that brings people together and makes them the author of the new narrative. We focus on Culture as the critical point for aligning values and behaviours in the new world to ensure that it becomes the powerful enabler of change rather than the derailer as so often happens.
